I'm closing out this season about photography with my take on what has to be one of the most classic debates: Analog vs. Digital.
\n\nHere's my contribution: It's just the wrong discussion to be had. To be quite honest, I don‘t think we're doing well with the transition from analog to digital at all. Mostly because the wrong parameters get compared, and as always, nostalgia gets in the way. While the analog process is clearly the past, everyone shooting digital just seems to lust after "the analog look". Let‘s look at what we can learn from the analog process.

Continuing to talk about photography, we take a look at how today's most popular cameras work – and what they have in stock for photography as a whole. I decided to take on this topic while being caught between being utterly annoyed by the constant praise of smartphones and disenchanted by the lack of really advanced technology in "real" cameras. Because after all, it would not only be arrogant, but also foolish not to consider what smartphones have in stock for photography as a whole.
\n\nListening to this episode, you stand to learn something about smartphone photography as well as the hyperbole of the "real camera" faction.

Kicking off this first season of A Faster Horse, I'm tackling a topic that really forced itself into my mind every time I got deeper into thinking about photography: What, and I can't emphasize this enough, is a photo? As someone who hasn't been shooting since 20 years, I'm approaching this question with the digital process in mind.
\n\nBut this discussion isn't an end in itself: I think we need to further acknowledge and understand the challenges everything technical brings for the creative side. Understanding sometimes intricate technical details is a necessary first step.
\n\nWhether you're an advanced photographer or the occasional instagrammer, I challenge you to not take something useful or interesting away from this episode :)

\n\nA Faster Horse is a podcast providing an analytical view at media and technology and aims to bring forward the discussions that we're missing, but that are worthwhile to have. It is made by me, Timm, a nerdy feminist hobby photographer and lawyer (to-be).
\n\nA word on schedule: A Faster Horse isn't an all-around weekly podcast. I can't produce quality that's worth your time on a weekly basis. Therefore, I'm taking a few weeks to produce mini seasons on specific topics like photography, user interface, movies, games, or potentially any aspect of technology, really. I'm gonna dole out the episodes weekly. There may also be the occasional one-off episode.
